The increase in the prevalence of obesity in adolescents is alarming and may be related to the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages. The objective of the study was to determine whether parental affective behavior and age are related to consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages and alcoholic beverages in Mexican adolescent men and women. A cross-sectional and analytical study was conducted among 296 adolescents, who are students of a public secondary school located in Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico. The Behavioral Affect Rating Scale and the Beverage Intake Questionnaire-15 were both conducted. Through multivariate analysis, predictors of moderate magnitude were found. In females, consumption of ultra-processed juices was negatively related to the mother’s warmth, while the father’s hostility was positively related to consumption of alcoholic beverages. In males, the mother’s hostility was negatively associated with water and fruit juice consumption and positively associated with soft drink consumption. While the father’s hostility was positively associated with the consumption of ultra-processed juices and energy or sports drinks.
