Abstract

LOPEZ CUAUTLE, Camilo; VAZQUEZ AREVALO, Rosalia; RUIZ MARTINEZ, Ana Olivia  and  MANCILLA DIAZ, Juan Manuel. Psychometric propierties of the Muscle Appearance Satisfaction Scale (MASS) in Mexican men. Rev. Mex. de trastor. aliment [online]. 2013, vol.4, n.2, pp.79-88. ISSN 2007-1523.

The aim of this investigation was to evaluate the psychometric properties in a sample of Mexican men of Muscle Appearance Satisfaction Scale instrument (MASS; Mayville, Williamson, White, Netemeyer, & Drab, 2002), created for the purpose of assessing symptoms of muscle dysmorphia. The sample consisted of 521 male Mexican high school (n = 198) and university (n = 277) with an age range of 14-25 years (x¯ = 19.06 S.D. = 2.60).). The results show that the Mexican version has a total alpha of .91. Unlike the original scale had 5 factors, this version introduced a structure of four factors explaining 66.34% of the total variance, which were: 1) injury and muscular test (α = .90), 2) use substance (α = .83), 3) Unit to exercise (α = .80) and 4) muscle satisfaction (α = .77). It can be concluded that the MASS, where Mexican version, has good psychometric properties and is useful for assessing symptoms of Muscle Dimorphic Disorder (MDD) in Mexican men.
