Abstract

VELAZQUEZ GARCIA, Mario Alberto  and  JIMENEZ MARTINEZ, Alfonso de Jesús. An exploratory vision of the community future of Cancun: Social consequences of the tourism model in the municipality of Benito Juárez, Quintana Roo. El periplo sustentable [online]. 2018, n.35, pp.38-63. ISSN 1870-9036.

The following article will seek to present an assessment of the social sustainability - building community or social cohesion - which has the model of tourism developed in Cancun. In other words, we seek to know if this city is headed for a social life where social integration, confidence, participation exist and respect for collective rules permitting the peaceful coexistence (ECLAC, 2007) or the contrary is produced by a social crisis. To do this we propose a model that seeks to distinguish aspects that we consider central to reproduction and continuity of community. This model will be nourished with census data on different social, economic and government of the municipality Benito Juarez, Quintana Roo, as well as a review of secondary sources, including studies of our study case. The article not only represents the evaluation of a specific case, it´s a model proposal to evaluate the social effects of tourism to build or break social cohesion within a given social space.

Keywords : Tourism; Cancun; evaluation; social; social cohesion.
