TONKONOFF, Sergio. Deleuze, Guattari and the social. En-clav. pen [online]. 2026, vol.20, n.39, pp.114-134.  Epub 27-Jan-2026. ISSN 2594-1100.  https://doi.org/10.46530/ecdp.v0i39.778.

This article offers a general reconstruction of Deleuze and Guattari’s social theory, identifying its main features, clarifying its internal logic, and outlining its guiding principles. It concentrates on the concepts of flows, assemblages, and the abstract machine, clarifying their ontological status, theoretical functions, and methodological value. The article argues that these concepts are fundamental to a radically relational approach to the social and subjective domains. It shows how this approach challenges classic opposition between individual and society, micro- and macro-levels, nature and culture, while proposing a new image of the social, its configurations, and its dynamics. Our interpretive hypothesis is that the social ontology developed by Deleuze and Guattari replaces the traditional whole -parts paradigm with a paradigm of differential multiplicities, in which flows displace “elements” or “parts,” assemblage reconfigures the notion of “social system,” and the abstract machine replaces “systems of systems.” We contend that the consistency and scope of this conceptual syntax justify treating it as a meta-theoretical perspective comparable to the leading conceptual frameworks in contemporary social science.
