VENEBRA MUNOZ, Marcela. Phenomenology of Greed. Essay on a Radicalization of the Critique of Money. En-clav. pen [online]. 2026, vol.20, n.39, pp.69-91.  Epub 27-Jan-2026. ISSN 2594-1100.  https://doi.org/10.46530/ecdp.v0i39.790.

The central thesis of this article is that a phenomenological analysis of greed radicalizes Marx’s critique of money-particularly as developed in the Grundrisse-by grounding the critique of accumulation as a natural force of capitalism in its affective and emotional substratum. Greed is understood here as the idea and feeling of an infinite lack, which functions as a mystified motivational structure of post-industrial capitalism. In the first section, I examine the structural correspondence between money and greed, based on Marx’s analysis in the Economic and Philosophic Manuscripts, where greed appears as one of the three historical or structural conditions of capital (alongside competition and monopolies). In Capital, this force of accumulation is dramatized and embodied in the genetic description of capitalism. In the second part, I analyze the ideological function of the concept of "profit" within the logic of capital, both in relation to money and as an autonomous form of reason-one that I contrast with Husserl’s concept of rationality in his essays on the Kayzo. Finally, in a programmatic sense, I propose agôn as a counter-value to pleonexia, and as a possible horizon for the moral renewal of economic competition.
