Abstract
RODRIGUEZ-CASANOVA, Araceli Janette and ZURIA, Iriana. Aberrant coloration in waterbirds from the Lake of Zumpango, State of México. Huitzil [online]. 2018, vol.19, n.1, pp.131-140. ISSN 1870-7459. https://doi.org/10.28947/hrmo.2018.19.1.316.
We report the presence of four species of waterbirds with partial leucism in the Lake of Zumpango, State of Mexico. The individuals observed with aberrant coloration were a hatchling White-faced Ibis (Plegadis chihi), an adult Common Gallinule (Gallinula galeata), an adult American Coot (Fulica americana) and an adult Killdeer (Charadrius vociferus). These are the first partial leucism records for these waterbirds in Mexico. The Lake of Zumpango is a wetland that presents high pollution levels and a high degree of anthropogenic disturbance, so future studies could contribute with knowledge about these color anomalies in the area.
