Abstract

MAYA-ELIZARRARAS, Elisa. Record of the European Starling (Sturnus vulgaris) in Morelia, Michoacán. Huitzil [online]. 2018, vol.19, n.1, pp.69-74. ISSN 1870-7459.  https://doi.org/10.28947/hrmo.2018.19.1.305.

I report new observations of the European Starling for Morelia, Michoacán. This is an exotic and invasive bird species released in North America one century ago, which in the last years occupies different regions of the country. Early detection offers a first action step for the National Strategy on Invasive Species in Mexico. Is important the monitoring about the effects that this and other exotic invasive bird species have on native fauna.

Keywords : Exotic species; invasive species; México; urban ecology; urbanization.
