Abstract

RAMIREZ-ALBORES, Jorge E.. Bird community of the Facultad de Estudios Superiores Zaragoza campus II, UNAM, Mexico City. Huitzil [online]. 2008, vol.9, n.2, pp.12-19. ISSN 1870-7459.

I report the bird species diversity at the Facultad de Estudios Superiores Zaragoza campus II, Mexico City, recorded between 1998 and 2006. I carried out visual and aural surveys using transects without estimating distance. I recorded a richness of 58 bird species, belonging to 47 genera and 25 families. Thirty-six were resident species and 22 migratory species. Urban green areas provide sites for nesting, feeding, and resting for resident and migratory bird species. Ornithological studies in urban areas contribute to understand the pressure generated by anthropogenic activities on bird communities.

Keywords : Urban birds; conservation; Distrito Federal.
