Reversed palmaris longus (IPL) represents a proximally tendinous and distally muscular structure (contrary to normal); due to its close relationship with the median nerve, it can cause compression. The symptoms of ILP may manifest as edema and bluish swelling, numbness, and/or pain on the volar surface of the distal forearm; its hypertrophy, due to the inflexibility of the antebrachial fascia, can lead to compartment syndrome.
