Abstract

ARGUELLO RAMIREZ, Verónica; BOSCO GARATE, Ilka; GUTIERREZ RUIZ, Francisco  and  MARTINEZ RENTERIA, Dalia Araceli. Hepatic abscess piogen secondary to stump appendicitis. Acta méd. Grupo Ángeles [online]. 2023, vol.21, n.1, pp.76-79.  Epub June 09, 2023. ISSN 1870-7203.  https://doi.org/10.35366/109028.

Stump appendicitis is a rare and late severe complication in appendectomized patients. The actual incidence and prevalence are not well known; however, it is considered superior to the cases published in the medical literature. In 2012 there were around 50 cases reported internationally. A previous incomplete appendicular resection leaves the path open to new appendicitis, in this case of the stump, as well as complications, among which is the intrahepatic abscess, which is a prime reason for the communication of the following case. The diagnosis of suspicion is clinical, together with imaging techniques, with ultrasound and computed tomography being the most cost-effective explorations.

Keywords : stump appendicitis; liver abscess; abdominal pain; tomography.
