Resumen

SOLA AYAPE, Carlos. Prison, diplomacy and hispanophobia in the times of the mexican revolution: the case of the spaniard Augusto Ibáñez Serrano (1916-1917). Tzintzun. Rev. estud. históricos [online]. 2025, n.81, pp.271-308.  Epub 25-Abr-2025. ISSN 2007-963X.  https://doi.org/10.35830/treh.vi81.1806.

In May 1916, the Spaniard Augusto Ibáñez Serrano was arrested by the police in Mexico City and immediately, interned in the Penitentiary of Lecumberri after being accused of collaborating with General Félix Díaz, one of the military enemies of the constitutionalist project of Venustiano Carranza. In this historical context, marked by opposing leaderships, revolutionary solid tensions and a pressing Hispanophobia, the objective of this article is to present and analyze the criminal process of this Spanish subject during his 13 months of imprisonment, where, among other particularities, this research highlights the unconditional diplomatic support of the government of King Alfonso XIII and, in particular, of the Legation of Spain in Mexico.
