American artists Marion and Grace Greenwood were the first foreign women to paint murals in Mexico, whose experience allowed them to continue their careers as muralists in the United States. So this article will analyze the murals they made between 1937 and 1940 in the New Deal projects and the mural The History of Tennessee that Marion painted in 1955 in the Carolyn P. Brown Memorial University Center at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, to identify the elements they shared with Mexican muralism, the similarities with the murals they made in Mexican territory, how they were perceived by the public, and identifying whether they suffered any attack or censorship due to the theme.
