Resumen

RANGEL GONZALEZ, Erick; LLAMOSAS-ROSAS, Irving  y  HUTCHINSON TOVAR, Sara. Analysis of the initial effects of COVID-19 on jobs affiliated with the IMSS, at national levels, by sex and age groups. EconoQuantum [online]. 2025, vol.22, n.1, pp.103-137.  Epub 25-Abr-2025. ISSN 2007-9869.  https://doi.org/10.18381/eq.v22i1.7338.

Objetive:

to analyze the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on job separation probability and monthly wage variations at the national level, segmented by age and gender, using employment microdata from IMSS (2019-2021).

Methodology:

estimates are based on linear regression models and Oaxaca-Blinder decompositions.

Results:

during the initial months of the crisis, men experienced higher probabilities of job separation and greater temporary reductions in monthly wage increases. Workers aged 60 to 65 were the most affected.

Originality:

the study examines changes in job separation and wages within Mexico’s formal labor market during the pandemic and the early recovery period, using IMSS microdata.

Limitations:

findings are not generalizable to the broader labor market due to the exclusion of informal employment.

Conclusions:

women affiliated with IMSS faced lower probabilities of formal job separation than men during the peak of the crisis, as did workers aged 60 to 65.
