This paper sets up a conceptual framework, develops a transparent methodology for the case of Mexico, and builds up a macro social accounting matrix (SAM) for 2003, fully consistent with the national accounts. The goal is to establish a common platform to construct Micro SAMs -and to apply multisectoral analysis to Mexico- so that results can be reproduced by other researchers in order to achieve fruitful debates. To the best of our knowledge, such a macro SAM has not been built before for Mexico.
