In this text we present a short description of the relationship between the immigration of foreigners and the rise of the sugar cane mill during the context of the 19th century. The Royal Decree of Graces of 1815 facilitated the immigration of foreigners, and many of them established sugar mills in different parts of the country. In this article, it will also be described the case of the mills of the central-eastern region, placing greater emphasis on the case of the municipality of Juncos.
