Abstract

SIMA LOZANO, Eyder Gabriel  and  PERALES ESCUDERO, Moisés Damián. Linguistic Attitudes towards Maya and Learning Choices of a Youth Population in Merida. Península [online]. 2015, vol.10, n.1, pp.121-144. ISSN 1870-5766.

Monolingual Spanish-Speaking youth in Merida currently state that the Mayan language is valuable and prestigious. Nevertheless, when they choose to learn a second language, preference leans towards English or another language. Motivated by this discrepancy, this study explores attitudes that influence the decisions of speakers to value one language and study another.

Keywords : young; monolingual Spanish-Speaking; attitudes; Maya; English; Merida.
