The Interruption of University Studies by the Indigenous Women in Calakmul: Epistemic Violence in Spaces of Recent Colonization. Rev. pueblos front. digit. [online]. 2024, vol.19, e705. From a decolonial approach, this paper analyzes the interruption of university studies in young indigenous women from the municipality of Calakmul (Campeche, Mexico). Using a qualitative methodology, techniques such as observation and in-depth interviews were applied to produce narratives with ten young women who had been admitted to the Technological University of Calakmul between 2015 and 2021. The findings reveal that coloniality shaped not only the territory of Calakmul, but also the dynamics of its institutions. Thus, in a recently colonized territory with deep structural inequalities, interrupting university studies takes place throughout the educational trajectory in which collaborators faced institutional violence, epistemic violence, and violence related to their linguistic rights. The young women stand out for their capacity to exercise agency; however, their support networks were nevertheless insufficient for them to complete their university studies.
