VARGAS ESCOBAR, Natalia. Abelardo L. Rodríguez and the Making of the Mexican Developmental State. Región y sociedad [online]. 2025, vol.37, e1965. Epub 15-Feb-2026. ISSN 2448-4849. https://doi.org/10.22198/rys2025/37/1965.
Objective: To analyze the role of Abelardo L. Rodríguez in the emergence and configuration of the Mexican developmentalist State in the 20th century. Methodology: Historical review based on primary and secondary sources, focused on the origins of the Mexican developmentalist model and Rodriguez's contributions to this process. Results: The financial viability and the creation of an administrative platform, composed of public agencies, state enterprises, and regulatory frameworks, were identified as key factors that facilitated Mexican industrialization in the 20th century. Value: To emphasize the decisive role of A. L. Rodriguez in the structuring of the Mexican developmentalist model, particularly in the state organization oriented to industrial development. Limitations: Neither subsequent trajectories nor effective operativity of the developmentalist project were addressed. Conclusions: During A. L. Rodríguez's administration, the foundations of a public platform for development were laid which promoted the rearticulation and mobilization of capital as a germ of structural transformations in the national economy.
