Objective: To analyze the nutritional status and diet in Jojutla, Morelos, region. Methodology: The sample consisted of 60 parents and 60 high school students, half of whom have a home garden and the rest do not. The techniques applied were anthropometric recording, questionnaires, and participant observation. Results: The nutritional status and weight of the group with a home garden is normal, since the agroecosystem diversifies their diet. Most of the people without a home garden are overweight and obese, due to the frequent consumption of junk food. Value: Multifunctional analysis of the home garden as a space that contributes to the nutrition and diet to the family. Limitations: This is a cross-sectional study due to the specific time and space information´s gathering. It is advisable that food and weight be investigated for a longer period. Conclusions: Food globalization transforms the traditional diet; however, the home garden benefits nutritional and dietary aspects of families, which is positive for human health and the planet.
