Abstract

LOPEZ LEYVA, Miguel Armando. Los movimientos sociales y su influencia en el ciclo de las políticas públicas. Región y sociedad [online]. 2012, vol.24, n.55, pp.159-197. ISSN 2448-4849.

The literature on social movements has paid little attention to the results, consequences or impacts of their contentious action, compared to what has been written about their origin and history. Results have been linked to the idea of "success", evaluated from four broad perspectives: cultural, social, economic and political. In this article we focus on the latter, especially the process given to movement demands by democratically elected authorities. In that sense, we carried out an exercise of dialogue between the literature--from the standpoint of the political opportunities structure--and public policy, in order to point out the means of contact between them and indicate their explanatory potential in the analysis of a couple of examples from the last decade.

Keywords : democracy; collective action; social movements; political opportunity structure; public policy.
