This essay compares the relative position of the plastic industry between Texas and the North East region in Mexico. Both regions are plastic producers and have an interdependency and intensive trade.This paper contains a comparison about plastic production, its technological capabilities, location advantage to supply the market, among others topics. The development of the plastic industry in Mexico would allow increasing value added to crude oil instead of selling it as raw material. Higher resin imports and less participation as a supplier for the maquiladora industry imply not only offers the opportunity to exploit this market by improving the development of the petrochemical industry.
