Abstract

This article analyzes the participation of rural women and men in a recent social movement: Union Campesina Emiliano Zapata Vive (UCEZV, by its Spanish initials), which vindicate the peasant way of life and the struggle for the territory, as well as the consequences on gender differential empowerment, and the strengthening of individual identities, and changes in the collective identities, associated to their conformation as social actors.The organizations present special challenges for women participation, because they can reproduce authoritarian structures or produce new socializations, and social relations that support changes in the traditional gender model.
