CAMBEROS CASTRO, Mario y YANEZ VALDEZ, Jaime Arturo. La informalidad de los mercados laborales de Sonora y la frontera norte de México. Región y sociedad [online]. 2003, vol.15, n.27, pp.153-178. ISSN 2448-4849.
This paper demonstrates how informality of labor market intensified in Sonora and the Northern Border of Mexico (NBM) during the last decade, despite economie modernization. There are different concepts of informality but two will be considered: 1) Economically Active Population (EAP) that did not have a social security system like IMSS from 1990 to 2000 and, 2) Underemployed EAP, qualified according to its income level, less than 2 minimum wages for 1990 and less than 3 minimum wages for 2000.We made an index to measure the informality and its intensity in the last decade. The results show that, in accordance with the first definition, informality increased in the last decade, to reach in 2000, 46.6% of EAP in Sonora, above 39.4% of the NBM and less than 60% for Mexico; while informality by underemployment had as much as 65.5% for the labor market in Sonora, more than 59% of NBM and less than the rate of 68.6% for Mexico.
