Abstract

ACEVEDO, Daniela. Food Security: Hostage of its Historical-Conceptual Origin and a Casualty of Short-Sightedness?. CONfines relacion. internaci. ciencia política [online]. 2021, vol.17, n.33, pp.35-59.  Epub Jan 29, 2024. ISSN 1870-3569.  https://doi.org/10.46530/cf.vi33/cnfns.n33.p35-59.

This article analyzes how the context and debates that shaped the conceptual changes of what is now understood by food security have made it difficult to fight its assurance, thus threatening the survival of the human species. For this reason, it offers a review of the historical-conceptual origins of the phenomenon. It identifies the various elements that have motivated its evolution and the direction taken by the discourses and paradigms that follow it. The article ends with a discussion on the limitations that are identified in its theoretical-methodological foundations and on a possible conflict of interest on the part of important agents involved, which affects the reality of modern food problems.

Keywords : food security; corporate capture; Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO); Sustainable Development Goals (SDG); food system.
