This article conceptualizes public diplomacy 2.0 by making a comprehensive review of public diplomacy in general and showing its current global trends. It discusses some of the arguments regarding the use of social media and its tension with the institutional messages from the ministries of Foreign Affairs, as well as the way in which they are formulated and conveyed. Taking that into account, it offers some good practices for public diplomacy 2.0 and reviews its implementation in Mexico.

Keywords : public diplomacy; social networks; public diplomacy 2.0; political communication; foreign policy.
