This article analyses, from a historic perspective., Yrigoyen's main political and economical decisions during his first presidency in Argentina. These decisions can be understood in relation to two important challenges that the radical leader had to face: on the one hand, the integration of an urban middle class that was growing because of the intensive european immigration How in the country; on the other hand, the foundation of the basis for the national economic grow. While the first challenge was inseparable of patronage, the second was tied to an economic system of agricultural exports that marked the destiny of a radical president that couldn't -did not want to?- be emancipated completely from the conservatives elites.
