Abstract

GOMEZ PERALTA, Héctor. The Impact of the Latino Vote on Realignments in California and Texas Elections. Norteamérica [online]. 2025, vol.20, n.1, pp.153-178.  Epub Dec 02, 2025. ISSN 2448-7228.  https://doi.org/10.22201/cisan.24487228e.2025.1.688.

The article shows the trajectory of the Latino vote in California and Texas. It explains how and why the electoral realignment in California occurred, which turned that state into a solid bastion of the Democratic Party. It shows data that account for the demographic change suffered in that entity, where the Latino or Hispanic community has occupied a leading role in the elections. In light of the above, it shows how the environment of political polarization that exists in the United States, the increase in the Latino population, coupled with the ideological transformations within the Republican Party, are causing Texas to have closer and more competitive elections.

Keywords : Latino vote; American elections; political polarization; Hispanics.
