This article centers on an analysis of the main changes in volume, tendencies, and forms of highly skilled immigration to Mexico in recent years. This information is key for evaluating how this population contributes to the country’s development. The authors use information from Mexico’s 2000 and 2010 Census, as well as the 2015 Intercensus Survey. The results show a gradual growth of qualified immigration into Mexico, mainly of professionals who have graduated in different disciplines, but also of academics, scientists, and researchers who in the main are natives of the United States, Spain, Colombia, Argentina, and Venezuela. The data reveal that most of this qualified labor force joins the Mexican labor market, working in public or private education, the maquiladora and auto industry, and personal services.
