Resumen
VEGA BRIONES, Germán. Expresiones de violencia de género en la frontera norte de México: el caso de Ciudad Juárez. Norteamérica [online]. 2012, vol.7, n.2, pp.253-284. ISSN 2448-7228.
Based on almost 100 field interviews, this article discusses the causes and detonators of violence perpetrated by males on women maquiladora workers in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. The hypothesis is that men resort to violence to remind women of their role in society. The gender perspective and the supposed "sexualized" atmosphere of women working in the maquiladoras serve to offer one of various explanations of the violence. For example, years ago, Marvin Harris explained that one of the reasons men did not allow their wives to work was because when they entered the labor market, men lost all or part of their privileges (like having their homes cleaned, or having someone to get their clothing ready or prepare their meals).
