Abstract

RAMIREZ-PONCE, Andrés et al. Pulchrotes, new subgenus of Paranomala (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Rutelinae) and description of two new species from Mexico and Central America. Rev. Mex. Biodiv. [online]. 2024, vol.95, e955314.  Epub Sep 13, 2024. ISSN 2007-8706.  https://doi.org/10.22201/ib.20078706e.2024.95.5314.

Pulchrotes subgen. nov. is described to place Paranomala doryphorina (Bates, 1888) and 2 new species, P. chimalapensis sp. nov. and P. hondurana sp. nov., from Mexico and Honduras, respectively. This subgenus stands out by the unusual dorsal coloration pattern, and the complexity of the genitalia, making it difficult to link with the other species of the genus. Possible affinities with other subgenera and species are discussed, and taxonomic keys for the subgenera in Paranomala, and species of the subgenus Pulchrotes are provided, and plates illustrating diagnostic characters, and a distribution map are included.

Keywords : Anomalini; Taxonomy; Classification; Mesoamerica.
