Abstract

TRUJILLO-MIRANDA, Alma L.; CARRILLO-RUIZ, Hortensia; RIVAS-ARANCIBIA, Sombra P.  and  ANDRES-HERNANDEZ, A. Rosa. Structure and composition of the community of beetles (Coleoptera: Scarabaeoidea) from Chacateca's Hill, Zapotitlán, Puebla, Mexico. Rev. Mex. Biodiv. [online]. 2016, vol.87, n.1, pp.109-122. ISSN 2007-8706.  https://doi.org/10.1016/j.rmb.2015.08.008.

Abundance, richness and diversity of Scarabaeoidea in the cerro Chacateca, Zapotitlán, Puebla was studied. Samples of beetles in the dry and rainy seasons in 3 sites with different altitude levels, particular vegetation and soil texture were collected. A total of 1,300 individuals belonging to 16 genera and 25 species were recorded, using traps for coprophagous, necrophagous, and phytophagous beetles and captured by hand. Significant changes in the abundance and diversity of beetles between the 2 collected seasons were recorded, finding greater diversity in the dry season. The similarity of the community of beetles between seasons was low. The abundance of copronecrophagous beetles was significantly different between sites. In the lower altitude site the similarity in species composition was significantly lower than in the sites with higher altitude. Only in the sites of lowest and highest altitude the phytophagous beetles were analyzed and we found that the communities have significant differences in their abundance and diversity and low similarity in species composition.
