This year the 50th anniversary of the Metropolitan Autonomous University is celebrated. It is for this reason that the JMCS decided to publish a special issue with contributions from professors from the Department of Chemistry. We thank the Editorial Committee of the issue for the invitation to write an article about the academic work that has been done in the Analytical Chemistry Area of this Department. We hope that we have managed to give a good description of the achievements we have had since the Analytical Chemistry Area was founded in the Iztapalapa Unit of the Metropolitan Autonomous University.
