Abstract
RODRIGUEZ BENAVIDES, Domingo; LOPEZ-HERRERA, Francisco and PERROTINI HERNANDEZ, Ignacio. Impact of inflation on growth economic of Mexico. Panor. econ. (Ciudad de México) [online]. 2020, vol.16, n.31, pp.9-29. Epub Feb 23, 2021. ISSN 1870-2171. https://doi.org/10.29201/pe-ipn.v16i31.263..
In this paper we analyze the relationships between economic growth and its volatility, economic growth and inflationary uncertainty and the link between inflation and inflationary uncertainty from January 1993 to March 2018 through an unconventional approach in the empirical literature on the subject: the copulas approach. The results suggest that higher levels of volatility in economic growth are associated with higher growth rates. While for the economic growth and the inflationary uncertainty the association is positive but not so strong. Similarly, we find mixed evidence for the relation-ship between the uncertainty of economic growth and inflation in Mexico. Furthermore, the estimated copula for the relationship between inflation and inflationary uncertainty showed a dependency ratio in the upper tail, which suggests that the positive relationship between these variables has been stronger in the periods in which inflation increased.
