This paper analyzes the recent Spanish economy evolution, after a phase of expansion in which it had achieved an important advance in the convergence of well-being with other European countries and with the United States, suffers the impact of the Great Recession. First, the study focuses on the Spanish productive structure during the years 2000 to 2015, characterizing the Spanish productive model and analyzing the contribution of the large productive sectors to economic growth. Next, the work focuses on the labour productivity in Spain and it is contextualized in the international framework. The results indicate that the international convergence path of the Spanish economy is mainly due to the evolution of its employed population.
