ALVAREZ ANGULO, Erika Giannina. The price of faith: Legal and social consequences of religious discrimination. Rev. IUS [online]. 2025, vol.19, n.55, pp.143-163. Epub 05-Mayo-2025. ISSN 1870-2147. https://doi.org/10.35487/rius.v19i55.2024.1002.
In South America, Europe, Africa, the Orient and Asia, religious discrimination presents a significant social, legal and psychological challenge. The analysis employs a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods to understand how discrimination affects the daily lives of individuals and communities, limiting their rights and opportunities, generating tensions and affecting the economy. It also examines how this discrimination is intensified when combined with factors such as gender, race and class.
The research identifies a gap between the legal protection of religious freedom and its application in practice. To close this gap, it proposes inclusive policies and more effective monitoring mechanisms, while highlighting education and interfaith dialogue as fundamental foundations for a more just and united society.
