CHAVEZ GUTIERREZ, Héctor y LOAIZA GOMEZ, Guillermo. Intolerance and discrimination against religious minorities and non-believers. Case of the New Jerusalem religious community (Mexico). Rev. IUS [online]. 2025, vol.19, n.55, pp.115-142. Epub 05-Mayo-2025. ISSN 1870-2147. https://doi.org/10.35487/rius.v19i55.2024.998.
The objective of this text is to examine discrimination and intolerance against religious minorities and non-believers in the fundamentalist and fundamentalist community of Nueva Jerusalén in Michoacán, Mexico. The information, from this locality, was obtained from a field research conducted by the authors, given the scarcity of scientific texts due to the strict rules of access. Through a multidimensional approach, which includes legal and philosophical theories, the causes, manifestations and possible solutions to these problems are analyzed. Also, using the theory of legal principles, the weighting test, along with concepts of secularism and secularization, a framework is proposed to mitigate religious discrimination and promote tolerance. In addition, methodologies such as communicative action, discourse ethics and dialogical hermeneutics are explored to foster an inclusive and rational dialogue between the different factions of the community.
