Abstract

RENGIFO LOPEZ, Julián David. Musical Consumption and Narcoculture among Young People in Pereira. Culturales [online]. 2026, vol.14, e975.  Epub Apr 20, 2026. ISSN 2448-539X.  https://doi.org/10.22234/recu.20261401.e975.

This text originates from the study “Entre Corridos y Cafetales,” conducted by the Tambo research group at Areandina in Pereira. The paper examines how musical content linked to narcoculture affects local social dynamics. The investigation employed ethnography as its methodology and used tools such as interviews and participant observation. Its subjects were young people aged 18 to 34 living in the city. The article’s aim is to identify how certain musical genres construct imaginaries related to luxury, power, and economic success. The findings indicate that, although these songs contain references to drug trafficking, young listeners do not necessarily interpret them as a behavioral guide but rather as a symbolic representation of their aspirations for social mobility.

Keywords : Colombia; music; youth.
