Abstract
CALVARIO PARRA, José E.. The social construction of gender in danger and agricultural laborers of the town Miguel Alemán, Mexico. Culturales [online]. 2016, vol.4, n.1, pp.33-60. ISSN 2448-539X.
The aim of this research is to analyze the discourses and practices of agricultural workers living in the town Miguel Alemán, Sonora, regarding the social construction of gender and danger. Through a qualitative study, it is analyzed and discussed their interviews regarding work activities, their definitions of danger and care practices. There are differences in the division of labor between men and women, and thus the practices and discourse about the danger. Gender norms and working conditions (deficiency in the organization, exposure to vermin and extreme weather) are combined for the social construction of danger. It is concluded that there are glimpses of gender patterns that would influence the perception of danger either to prevent or to make bold action.
Keywords : danger; gender; agricultural laborers; masculinity.
