This article examines the Lower Colorado River transboundary water management conflicts between the United States and Mexico. This work reviews the main physical and institutional features of the region at the time a theoretical analysis on the sustainability perspectives used in local and binational waters is made. Such perspectives are based on the foundations of natural resources and environmental economics. The basic aim of this analysis is to clarify about the approaches and processes that rules the water resources relationships, in due course, it seeks both causes of conflicts and clues of opportunities to improve water resources already allocated and highly contested.
