This text presents both a detailed description and an analysis of the financial rescue measures adopted by the Obama administration since taking office in January 2009. It alludes only to policies and actions related with the financial sector, although these should be examined along those devoted to achieve the economic activity recovery and the raise of employment levels - which will be the subject of another article. The main components of the Financial Stability Plan are examined and, along with the description of the content of each of them, reference is also made to the reactions of other actors and to some of its political repercussions. The new regime for financial regulation is also discussed. The main conclusion is that, irrespectively of the form that it adopts and the moment in which it happens, the way out from the financial crisis cannot be a return to the statu-quo ante.
