Resumen

ESTRADA, Olga Nelly  y  IZQUIERDO, Isabel. Trans Women in the North of Mexico. Testimonials, Experiences and Life Tensions. Revista Col. San Luis [online]. 2023, vol.13, n.24, 00036.  Epub 27-Ene-2025. ISSN 2007-8846.  https://doi.org/10.21696/rcsl132420231572.

The objective of this research is to analyze the family, economic and work conditions of three transgender women from northern Mexico. We make visible their social exclusion, economic and cultural inequality too, and the tensions they experience due to their gender identity in their daily life, in their body and in their emotions, as they break with patriarchal mandates, challenging the ways that force them to be according to the sex in which they were born. The study is qualitative exploratory from a semiotic-discursive approach, the analysis focuses on three different testimonies to revalue their voices and subjective positions. The findings are the following: they decide to live according to their standards of freedom, feelings and feminine expressions, denying the mandates to be tough, masculine and strong men, despite losing the privileges and possessions that the sex-gender system grants them.

Palabras llave : transgender; woman; patriarchy; heteronormativity; sex.
