The objective of the article is to analyze if job satisfaction has a mediating effect on the relation between the perception of job alternatives and the organizational commitment in the maquila industry. An empirical test was carried out with 145 line operators in a maquiladora of electronic supplies in Victoria, in the State of Tamaulipas (Mexico) to verify the statistical model. The database was analyzed using the spss statistical program. Among the results, it was established that, although the perception of employment alternatives negatively affects organizational commitment, this effect is totally mediated by job satisfaction. The value of this work lies in the fact that it is the first research of this kind in the labor market of the maquiladora industry. In conclusion, it was determined that the effect of the perception of employment alternatives is not direct, but indirect; the foregoing should encourage human resources managers to strive to reduce behaviors opposed to organizational commitment. In other words, although the perception of external offers from other potential employers has an influence on the decision of rejecting organizational commitment, it is job satisfaction that ultimately determines the decision of establishing or not establishing an organizational commitment with the current job.
