Resumen
HIDALGO, Imelda et al. Aquí y en el otro lado: Los significados socioculturales de la sexualidad y sus implicaciones en la salud sexual de los migrantes mexicanos. Migr. Inter [online]. 2008, vol.4, n.3, pp.27-50. ISSN 2594-0279.
We analyze the cultural meanings of sexuality and gender that permeate the sexual practices of seasonal migrant workers in the United States and the social conditions that favor their involvement in risk behaviors. The results demonstrate how the social construction of cultural meanings in communities of origin and the social conditions underlying migration, including the processes of cultural hybridization, facilitate risk behaviors. These affect migrant men, women recently arrived in the United States, and women who remain in their communities of origin because they are not culturally empowered to establish and negotiate safe sexual practices with their partners and because they place a higher social and sexual value on men who have migrated.
