Abstract

PEREZ MONTEROSAS, Mario. Las redes sociales de la migración emergente de Veracruz a los Estados Unidos. Migr. Inter [online]. 2003, vol.2, n.1, pp.136-160. ISSN 2594-0279.

This article examines the process of international migration in a region of Veracruz. Since the mid-1990s, undocumented men and women have begun migrating from this region to traditional and new destinations in the United States. Analysis based on both open-ended and in-depth interviews in three municipalities in central Veracruz considers the role that social networks play in the migration of rural workers. These new migrants make use of social and economic resources that give them membership in various mature and dense migrant networks, which facilitate increased migration from central Veracruz to the United States.

Keywords : international migration; social networks; emerging emigrant regions; Veracruz; United States.
