Abstract

VARGAS ALVAREZ, Sebastián. “All Power to the People”: Cartelism and National Strike in Colombia (2021). Latinoamérica [online]. 2025, n.81, pp.39-67.  Epub Oct 27, 2025. ISSN 2448-6914.  https://doi.org/10.22201/cialc.24486914e.2025.81.57822.

ABSTRACT: the article addresses the use of posters during the National Strike that began on April 28, 2021 (28A) in Colombia. The aim of the text is to show how the creation, distribution and use of graphic posters made it possible to disseminate the demands of the mobilization, denounce state repression, and establish new meanings of “the common” and the public space. To this end, several interviews were conducted with artists, graphic designers, cultural managers, printers and booksellers who actively participated during the 2021 protests. The article closes with a reflection on the relevance of creating archives on this type of aesthetic-political practices in the context of social protests, and offers some examples that have already been implemented in Colombia and Latin America.
