PUYANA MUTIS, Alicia y RODRIGUEZ PENA, Isabel. The Power of the Big Oil Conglomerate over Energy Transition and Energy Security Risks. Latinoamérica [online]. 2025, n.80, pp.105-137. Epub 12-Ene-2026. ISSN 2448-6914. https://doi.org/10.22201/cialc.24486914e.2025.80.57656.
This paper presents the conflicts that could weaken Energy Security and hinder Energy Transition (Es and ET, respectively) to the greatest extent. The article analyzes the two processes, presents their characteristics and points out how the weight of fossil fuels in the energy matrix and the power of the interests linked to them have acted and might act to shape ET to their interests and to weaken the Es. The analysis of the implications of ET on the demand for critical minerals is extended. The study concluded that the aggregation of energy sources is hampering the Es by inducing new contradictions, one of them between SE and the environmental impact of the markedly extractivist ET.
