Abstract

MENDEZ ROJAS, Diana Alejandra. From Totality to the Anthropocene in Latitud de la flor y el granizo by Mario Payeras. Latinoamérica [online]. 2024, n.79, pp.111-135.  Epub Jan 09, 2025. ISSN 2448-6914.  https://doi.org/10.22201/cialc.24486914e.2024.79.57659.

This article analyzes the essay Latitud de la flor y el granizo published in 1988 by Mario Payeras, a Guatemalan committed to the social transformation of his nation, who, between 1972 and 1984, was a member of the Guerrilla Army of the Poor (EGP). Drawing on the Marxist version of the concepts of totality and anthropocene, it is proposed that this work synthesizes an approach of ecological critique to western civilization, product of the philosophical education Payeras received from multiple international travels throughout the 1960s, as well as his particular use of philosophy to analyze the guatemalan reality.

Keywords : Marxism; Civilization; Ecological critique; Armed conflict.
