the importance of Cuba in the media imagination is usually disproportionate to its material dimensions as a country. This means that analyzing the discourse on Cuba reveals very special information about its enunciators. In this paper, an analysis is carried out of the representations that the newspapers El País, ABC and La Vanguardia made of the Cuban reality during the illness that removed Fidel Castro from the government in 2006. 227 news items have been studied using the content analysis methodology. from the theoretical approach of framing, combined with critical discourse studies.
