Resumen

RAMIREZ-NARANJO, David Orlando  y  HERRERA TORRES, Hugo Amador. Critical Contribution to the Mainstream Study of Social Sustainability. Latinoamérica [online]. 2024, n.79, pp.49-79.  Epub 09-Ene-2025. ISSN 2448-6914.  https://doi.org/10.22201/cialc.24486914e.2024.79.57643.

Social sustainability is an interdisciplinary and dynamic concept that encompasses a wide range of knowledge. Although at first glance social sustainability seems to be approached in a fragmented way and appears as a chaotic concept, a closer look suggests systematization paths. The article, in this sense, intends to identify the currents of social sustainability from a dialectical process between the dominant discourse and its counter-hegemonic criticism. The specialized literature indicates that the dominant discourse of social sustainability is grouped into two approaches, Corporate Social Responsibility and Social Development; isolated from this discourse is the approach of Base Communities in Resistance, common in the theoretical, political and methodological development of the global south.

Palabras llave : Poverty; Social change; Social capital; Social responsibility; Community action.
