Abstract

GREGOR BARIE, Cletus. New constitutionals narratives in Bolivia and Ecuador: The good living and the rights of nature. Latinoamérica [online]. 2014, n.59, pp.9-40. ISSN 2448-6914.

This paper discusses two innovative concepts related to new visions of development: living well (or good living) and Mother Earth (Pachamama), contained in the new constitutions of Bolivia (2009) and Ecuador (2008). A qualitative and comparative analysis of the constitutional texts as empirical sources provides new clues about the connotations and broader implications of these concepts. Living well or good living is still a not a consolidated paradigm in these constitutions which are analyzed as "narratives texts" and coexists with more conventional approaches of development.

Keywords : Development; Indigenous Peoples; Multiculturalism; Constitutionalism; Latin America.
